Richard Latten started his legal career working at a Munich (Germany) based law firm where he worked in that firm’s German practice. After that he worked for a P&I Club as a claims handler. In 1991, he became an attorney himself at a Rotterdam based law firm specializing in marine and transportation law. He became partner in 1999. At that time he had built his own practice, focussing on marine casualties, marine cargo claims, brown water claims matters (carriage by inland barge) as well as road transport, storage and logistics related matters. Having a private interest in railways, he focussed on railway related matters after the liberalisation of the Dutch rail freight industry. Nowadays, apart from his focus on his marine and ocean-transport oriented practice, he is one of the very few attorney’s in the Netherlands specialized in rail freight transportation.
With 32 years of experience as litigator as well as advising clients in the set-up of transport and logistics business and related contracts, Richard joined Conway & Partners as per 1 March 2023. Amongst the clients of Richard are several major ocean containers carriers, shippers, railway undertakings and road and rail freight operators as well as their insurers.
